Description: We again expertly delivered our CE Marked, EPD Certified self-levelling floor screed to the new hospital complex, The National Forensic Mental Health Service (NFMHS) in Portrane. The NFMHS is a new state-of-the-art facility located 22 km from Dublin City in Portrane, North County Dublin. The project was awarded by Health Service Executive to the Joint Venture formed by OHL (50%) and OHL’s local delivery partner JJ Rhatigan (50%). We delivered 24,000 m2 of our Alpha Hemihydrate Sudanit 280 Screed using our state-of-the-art Mobile Screed Factories and 20,000 m2 Rapidur® B5 Rapid Drying Floor Screed (laid by industry experts, B Doherty Screeding Mobile Screed Factory). The project, which commenced works on site in 2017, comprises the construction of a forensic mental health hospital, as part of St. Ita’s Hospital complex. It covers a floor area of 24,000 m2, not including the energy, maintenance, and gardening buildings. The new hospital will accommodate 170 patient beds, distributed as follows: National Forensic Hospital: 120 beds; Mental Health Unit for Children and Adolescents: 10 beds; Intellectual Disability and Mental Health Unit: 10 beds; and the Intensive Care Rehabilitation Unit: 30 beds. The construction project also includes the execution of spaces related to energy production systems, maintenance, and horticulture. The NFMHS has been designed to provide differentiated high and medium security services and includes a series of shared facilities. It will have 10 hospital buildings, a primary healthcare and therapy center, and an administrative complex. The hospital complex will be surrounded by a 2km long, 5.2 m high safety perimeter fence. The building will be used to provide Mental Health care services to children and adolescents, care for the intellectually disabled, intensive care, primary care, and rehabilitation therapy. The deliveries, completed using our fleet of mobile screed factories, enabled our EPD-certified Alpha Hemihydrate flooring solution to be installed quickly and efficiently over UFH completing the flooring solution for the entire project. The floor solution of self-levelling liquid screed is remarkably quick to walk-on – can be applied at 500m² per day, and is walkable within 6 hours thus ensuring the follow-on trades were not delayed. It’s particularly suitable for use with UFH, fully encapsulating pipes and services, providing excellent heat transfer – and with thinner floors and using more insulation – increasing the performance of the underfloor heating. Our unique bespoke re-load hydraulic screw for sand & aggregates ensures excellent daily output is achieved. Plus, for convenience, there are a number of pre-programmed mix designs to choose from delivering screed floors from C20 to C35.
